Career Development

It is our firm belief that one of the most beneficial investments we can make is in the development of the capabilities of our associates. Our professional development program is a multi-dimensional approach to foster the continued growth of our associates as professionals, business people, and individuals.

While most of our associates join the firm with significant business experience and professional education, we believe the key to their success is continued learning. Our associates participate in a program that is designed to deliver the necessary planning ability, technical knowledge and practice management skills appropriate to their time with the firm.

The components of our development program include:

New Associate Development Plan

All of our associates participate in an initial 12 week program to launch their careers with Ashford. The agenda includes an introduction to marketing techniques and materials, product knowledge, practice management skills, consultative communication skills and a thorough overview of our holistic planning process.

Weekly Best Practices Reviews

Associates participate in Monday Morning Training classes that teach the practical application of product knowledge, planning concepts and marketing techniques. This class is highly interactive in nature and is designed to enhance our new associates' core competencies and results. 

Individual Coaching

Our associates receive individual coaching on a regular basis. Meetings are held weekly, monthly or quarterly depending on the associate's experience in the industry and time with the firm.

Mentorship and Team Based Selling

A thorough discussion of this is found in the our Marketing Culture. It is referenced here, as we believe this is an essential element of our associates’ growth. New associates can leverage the knowledge, experience, and credibility of our senior associates and learn firsthand by doing, rather than on their own.  This brings increased value to prospective clients and allows great scheduling flexibility.

Practice Builder Study Group

A monthly meeting dedicated to the review of individual business productivity and improvement in the critical areas of marketing, client development and practice management. This program utilizes a "board of directors" approach, grouping participants by business experience and productivity.

National Educational Forums

Associates attend a regional two-day introductory school sponsored by the creators of our planning system. Additionally, the same organization conducts a national 3-½ day meeting twice a year. These are exceptional learning forums where practitioners meet, network and learn the best new ideas in the industry. 

Managing Goal Achievement

A ten-week curriculum that teaches associates how to identify the most important goals in their personal and business lives. Participants learn a methodology to develop action plans to achieve their goals. This program is conducted in a group setting and is interactive and highly participatory.
