Matthew G. Lipscomb, CLU®, ChFC®**, Senior Vice President, Atlanta

Most people are not interested in “Financial Planning”, per se.  If you are a business owner or entrepreneurially minded individual, you are much more concerned with maximizing income and wealth, minimizing expenses, including taxes and of course, protecting what you have.  For almost 20 years, Matt has been specializing in this type of entrepreneurial economics. 

Matt’s business philosophy is driven by concerns of the private business owner and entrepreneur, not by traditional financial and insurance planning that many times contradicts the goals of the entrepreneur.  Matt helps these motivated individuals by helping to maximize both income and protection while minimizing taxes.  Matt helps his clients analyze every aspect of their financial lives including property, investments, wills and trusts, taxes, and insurance of every kind, in order to both maximize wealth and maximize protection.  He also understands that no financial decision can ever be made in a vacuum because all financial decisions affect other financial decisions, which in turn, can create waste, voids, duplications, excess taxes and lost opportunity costs.

Matt graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Finance in 1992 and started at Ashford Advisors that same year.  Matt furthered his professional knowledge by earning his Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designations from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.  Both of these designations require college level courses in Investments, Taxation, Economics, Insurance, Estate, Retirement, and Financial Planning.  In addition, Matt is a participating member of the Atlanta Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. 

Since beginning his career at Ashford Advisors, Matt has consistently proven himself to be dedicated and passionate about helping clients achieve their dreams.  Every year since 1999, he has won the prestigious Holcomb T. Green Award from Ashford Advisors; this award recognizes the most outstanding advisor in the firm each year.  Upon completion of his first year in financial services, he earned the firm’s prestigious Mattingly Award for New Advisor of the Year.  Since 1996, he has also qualified each year to attend the annual Leaders Club conference, and six times has qualified to attend the Presidents Council conference.  Matt is a seven time recipient of the Centurion Award.  Matt is also a perennial Million Dollar Round Table qualifier and has achieved Court of the Table and Top of the Table multiple times.  In addition, he received the Five Star Best in Client Satisfaction award in Atlanta each year from 2008 through 2011. 

Matt lives in Atlanta with his wife Melanie and their four children, Mary Hathaway, Annie, Robert, and Ivan, who they adopted from Russia in 2007. While Matt enjoys golfing, fishing, and hunting, his favorite pastime is spending time with his family.  He and his family are active members of the Cathedral of Christ the King and Christ the King School where Matt served on the Student Advisory Council.  Because Matt enjoys helping to form young people of character, he has coached over 45 teams through the years at the Ashford-Dunwoody YMCA and has many championship teams under his belt.  For the last couple years, he has mentored college men in a summer work, formation, and faith program while they are working summer jobs.  Tying in his love of the outdoors and fishing into the formation of young people, he has helped organize several children’s fishing tournaments at Silver Lake near his home in Brookhaven.
