George S. Murdock, CLU®, ChFC® (1975 – 1995)

Mr. Murdock, known for his dark brown eyes and jolly demeanor, came to be General Agent of the Atlanta agency through an unexpected path.  Originally from Syracuse, New York, Mr. Murdock worked in the Guardian Home Office and then served as a Regional Director for Guardian in the Southeast.  He then became a co-General Agent with Ed Mattingly in 1975.

Mr. Murdock believed it to be incredibly important to give back to the community and his industry.  When a new agent joined, he gave them an application for the Atlanta Association of Life Underwriters (now NAIFA—Atlanta), an organization that he and his predecessors as well as the top agents in the Atlanta agency had all served as President of at one time or another.  He also was President of GAMA (General Agents and Managers Association) and the Atlanta Estate Planning Council.

Mr. Murdock was a graduate of Colgate University and his car always bore his allegiance to his alma mater on his license plate, which read “Colg8”.   When Mr. Murdock tragically lost his eldest son, Douglas Murdock, in a car accident, George and Marilyn Murdock started the Douglas Howell Murdock Scholarship Fund.  This fund is for Seniors who have significantly invested in themselves by borrowing more than $10,000 through their undergraduate careers.  Mr. and Mrs. Murdock were also active supporters in literacy action in their beloved town of Cutler, Maine.

Mr. Murdock had a way of making whomever he was speaking to feel as though they were the only one that mattered.  His door was always open and he often had a smile on his face.  His love of his family and passion for life were an example for all.
